   1.by the name of的意思是"名叫...的",也可以写成"of the name of"的形式。通常放在句末作后置定语。
例:Do you know a person by the name of Maggie?
    (你认识一个叫Maggie的人吗？）

    A young man of the name of David came here to
see you this morning.
    (今天上午有个叫David的人来找过你）

2.in the name of的意思是"以...名义"在句中通常做状语。
例：I arrest you in the name of law.
     (我以法律的名义逮捕你）

     Let me thank you in the name of us all.
     (让我代表所有人谢谢你）

需要指出的是，当句中的宾语为“人称代词”时，这个in the name of可以用in one's name的形式出现。
例: I wrote him a letter in your name.
     (我以你的名义给他写了封信）

3.under the name of的意思是"以...的笔名" "用...的名字"
例：He wrote books under the name of Big Ban.
     (他以Big Ban这个笔名来写书）

     Did he publish his novels under his own name or under his pseudonym?
     (他是用真名还是笔名发表小说啊？）
